Dat hart van jou (That Heart of Yours), located in the Schoonbroek neighbourhood in Ekeren, is a double-sided bronze relief sculpture by Yannick Ganseman. The work was commissioned by the Antwerp public art collection as part of the project Voorbij het centrum (Beyond the Centre), which anchors contemporary artworks in Antwerp’s districts.
The sculpture embodies both private and public life in the neighbourhood. On one side, life behind the façades of the houses becomes tangible in an intimate scene: a father celebrating his daughter’s birthday, an image that highlights the tender and caring aspect of fatherhood. The other side captures the neighbourhood itself through the depiction of the nearby Schoonbroek Marian chapel, a recognisable landmark and collective place of memory.
By bringing these two perspectives together, Ganseman intertwines the fragile intimacy of daily life with the shared public space of the neighbourhood. The result is a layered reflection on community, closeness and connectedness.
Yannick Ganseman (b. 1984) lives and works in Brussels. Trained as a draughtsman, he works as both painter and sculptor. His subjects, often drawn directly from everyday life, oscillate between heart-warming and estranging, exploring the emotional power of ordinary moments.
