In front of the town hall of Borsbeek stands Onlosmakelijk Verbonden, a sculpture by Rik Van de Wouwer. The work is constructed from steel plates reminiscent of leaves. With this metal tree of life, the artist depicts the connection between humans and nature, between the past and the future, and between the residents of the municipality itself. The sculpture's design also refers to the bats that live in the nearby fort. The sculpture stands as a lasting reminder of the festivities surrounding 750 years of Borsbeek. The rust-colored steel plates catch the light in different ways, giving the tree a different character at different times of the day.
Rik Van de Wouwer (1958) is a sculptor from the Antwerp Kempen region. He teaches sculpture at the Borsbeek art academy Academia. He works mainly in metal and is known for his abstract sculptures in which natural forms play a central role.
