Details

The memorial to Adelbert Kennis is a work by Albert Poels, created in 1928. The monument, made of bronze and artificial stone, is located in the UNITAS neighbourhood, at Adelbert Kennisplein in Deurne.

The monument honours Adelbert Kennis, vice-president of UNITAS, the association that gave its name to this neighbourhood. The UNITAS neighbourhood was built in the mid–1920s as a garden suburb – a residential complex for clerks and teachers. The artwork consists of a bronze medallion with Kennis’ portrait, set into a large stone platform that incorporates a plant bed.

Albert Poels (1903–1984) was a prolific sculptor, medallist and jewellery designer. Born into an artist family, he studied at the Municipal Academy of Berchem and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
