Details

De Flierefluiter (The Carefree Whistler), a small bronze sculpture by Albert De Vree, was created in 1993 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Zandvliet brass band. The sculpture has a permanent place by the old presbytery of Zandvliet, in front of the Martinus farm. It symbolises the turbulent history of the village and the carefree way of life of the kieviten (lapwings), as the inhabitants of the district are called.

Albert De Vree (b. 1942) is a local artist known for works that often reflect a strong connection with the community and the history of the polder villages of Berendrecht and Zandvliet.
